Workshop Description

This series is for true beginners with little or no experience in any style of dance. You’ll learn the core steps that form beginner-level dances while building confidence, coordination, and memory. We’ll cover 2-wall and 4-wall dances (32–48 counts) with clear structure, symmetry, and quarter and half turns. At least one new dance is introduced each week, with regular review. Many students take the Beginner series once or twice to feel solid before moving up. When you’re ready for more turns and complexity, Improver/Intermediate is the next step.

What to Wear
Wear clothing that allows for movement, and allows the instructor to see your lines. Class can be taken in jazz shoes, dance sneakers, or even regular sneakers, street shoes, or boots, as long as the soles are clean, the heels are in good condition, and most importantly, your shoes allow you to turn easily on the balls of your feet. (No bare feet, ballet shoes, or tap shoes.)

Lauren's Bio

Lauren Schmid was a lifelong dancing hobbyist with formal training as a yoga instructor and massage therapist when she embarked on the volunteer adventure of teaching line dancing in 2021, and instantly loved it! Her love of line dancing and teaching led Lauren to study choreography at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, where she contributed original choreography pieces to the annual Dance Collective concerts of 2023, 2024, and 2025. Whether she’s bringing absolute beginner line dancers from uncertainty to confidence, or sharing complex line dances with experienced dancers of other genres, Lauren finds it a privilege to share her love of line dancing, and feels great joy in witnessing the growth of the line dancing community. Fun, friends, and great music are waiting for you... in a line dancing class!

Workshop Description

This series is for dancers who are comfortable with basic step patterns and ready for more challenge. If you’ve completed the Beginner series and feel confident — or if you already have dance experience in any genre — you’re welcome here. You’ll learn 2-wall and 4-wall dances (32–96 counts) with more turns, varied phrasing, and less symmetry. The choreography is more varied and musically interesting. Improver dances are typically taught in one week; Intermediate dances over two weeks. All dances are reviewed regularly to support retention. This level has a strong sense of camaraderie. As dancers begin to recognize patterns and anticipate transitions, they naturally share insights and support one another. If you’re comfortable with foundational steps and can learn choreography at a steady pace, you’re welcome to enroll without taking the Beginner series first.
